Discover the whole Extraordinary Lives series of brilliant biographies to inspire kids aged 7 and up following this link.

Frida Kahlo / Editorial

This illustration was for the open call for artists for Bravery Mags issue about Frida Kahlo and i so enjoyed drawing it.

I like to show Frida in her wheelchair while working. It's so impressive what she did whenever having so much pain and health issues. And I think it's also very important to show what you can do nonetheless. I find it so very empowering.

Tea Time /Editorial + Produkt

This ist my Make art that sells Bootcamp Assignment for the tea themed month about tasseomancy. I love all the setting and would like to share a cup of tea with this girl.

Coco Chanel

This is my portrait of Coco Chanel, one of the most influential fashion designers of the 20th century. The Brand and Company founded by her is still one of the larges companies in the fashion and cosmetics industry. Founded 1910.
She became the only person in her profession to be on the list of Time magazine of the world's 100 most influential people of the 20th century for her influence on the world of fashion.

Iris Apfel

So here it is, my portrait of Iris Apfel. It's so amazing and inspiring that she's already 96! I read a lot about her during my project and she's still pretty busy. Just to name some of her activities - in 2012 she's been a visiting professor at the University of Texas at Austin, she's still designing, performing in commercials.
Through the textile firm Old World Weaver she run with her husband from 1950 - 1992 she's been travelling all over the world where she began buying pieces of non-western, artisanal clothes. She wore these clothes to clients' high-society parties. I guess this is where this phenomenal look comes from too. The Museum of Lifestyle & Fashion History in Boynton Beach, Florida, is designing a building that will house a dedicated gallery of Apfel's clothes, accessories, and furnishings. This will be worth a trip there!
If you want to know more watch the documentary about her by Albert Maysles - just have a look for "Iris".

Marie Curie

This is my portrait of Marie Curie, such a pioneer and inspiring woman. She was born and grew up in Poland, at this time a part of Russia. As Women weren't allowed to study there she followed her sister and moved to Paris to study at the Sorbonne. In December of 1897 she started her research on radioactivity. She was the first woman ever who won the Nobel Prize. She's been also the first woman teaching at Académies des Sciences. (Sadly enough after her beloved husband Pierre Curie died by accident. It was his chair she took over.) She’s been the first female member of Académie des Médicine and later she led the Radium Institute in Paris. ..Unfortunately her researches and curie-ousity about Radium led to a death of aplastic anemia in the age of 66, what a sacrifice for humanity. But even after her death she kept being a pioneer as she was the first woman buried at the Paris Phanteon to honor her scientific achievements.

Josephine Cochrane

Here's my portrait of Josephine Cochran, the inventor of the dish washer. Hopefully you don't need to do any dishes today - a big "THANK YOU" to Josephine Cochran

Anne Frank

Here is my portrait of Anne Frank. Hopefully she'll never be forgotten. I really wish no one would ever have to experience what she did...

Hedy Lamarr

This year I started the 100daychallenge on instagram. I’ve chosen to draw inspiring women and made a guessing game out of it. First I post items as hints, of some a quote and in the end a portrait of the respective woman. so fun to do!

due to research times and this as a side project I decided to stretch my 100dayproject over a longer time not posting everyday but doing a guessing game time by time.

First Woman to guess was Hedy Lamarr, an Austrian born American Film actress and inventor. She invented a lot of things and had a big fascination for science. Fun invention is the soda streamer but most important she codeveloped a radio guidance system the wlan and buetooth of our days now is based on and which used spread sprectrum and frequency hopping technology so it couldn’t been followed anymore. In 1997 she got an award for this from the Electronic Frontier Foundation. But She wasn't just beautiful and intelligent she also had a good sense of humor. When they called her up to tell her she would get the award, her first words were, Hedy Lamarr being Hedy Lamarr, ‘Well, it’s about time.'

Portrait / Editorial

Portrait of Sojourner Truth who was a suffrage and anti slavery shero. A so impressive woman! I drew this in different styles as i wanted to compare their different impression.

my aim was to reduce all features to the essentials and have a colorful illustration whenever it's was a difficult time. But Sojourner Truths Courage opened (or she made the start to open) so many doors for the women we can be and how we can live today. So she added a lot of color and possibilities to this world.

Cupcake Market - Ceramics / product

Illustration and design for ceramics. Words are from one of my favorite quotes from Astrid Lindgren - be cheeky, wild and wonderful. What a lovely start into the day with this reminder!

For this work I deeply fell in love with colored pencils.
